Volunteer Church Worker (Youth and Children)

Reports to

Intern Programme Co-ordinator

Main purpose of the job:

To assist the leadership team of Good News Church, Nis, Serbia with developing youth and children’s ministries

 Main duties and responsibilities:

  1. To help organise and lead all aspects of the weekly sessions of Voice youth music workshop aimed at 14-19 year olds
  2. To mentor youth attending Voice music workshop
  3. To help organise and run Youth Alpha in English courses under the supervision of the Leadership Team
  4. To assist with teaching at the weekly Sunday Children’s Club DNK
  5. To assist with arts and craft sessions for the monthly outreach church craft club, Mad-day
  6. To assist with organising and running summer camps for children and youth
  7. To help develop children’s and youth ministries at Good News church, Nis, Serbia
  8. To help develop student ministries at Good News church, Nis, Serbia

Essential requirements

  1. To be a committed Christian actively serving in the local UK church
  2. To enjoy working with children, teenagers and young adults
  3. To be committed to serving in all aspects of the small church team in Serbia
  4. To be willing to embrace and learn from serving God abroad

Desirable requirements

  1. Age 20-26 years
  2. Experience of working with children and youth
  3. A current, valid DBS check
  4. To enjoy all aspects of music eg singing, playing, music technology, PA

How much will this experience cost?

  1. You will need to pay £300 towards the cost of one year’s training
  2. Accommodation costs approximately £120 per month. There will be assistance available to help you find suitable accommodation
  3. Additional variable expenses for household bills plus personal costs eg food, drink, mobile phone
  4. You will need a visa to stay in Serbia for longer than 3 months. The cost is approximately £130 per application and is dependent on the exchange rate and costs set by the government.
  5. Travel costs to and from the UK and locally. The cost of public transport in Serbia is cheaper than the UK and Nis has good flight connections to several European countries via budget airlines
